18-Year-Old Killed by Police Near Greeley Medical Center Identified

The Weld County Coroner’s Office has confirmed that the individual who was shot and killed by Greeley police on Wednesday afternoon near North Colorado Medical Center was 18-year-old Aden Alcide Jeannoutot.

The incident occurred at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday when a law enforcement officer stopped a car for a traffic violation close to 16th Avenue and 21st Street, as reported in a statement from the 19th Judicial District.

The female driver exited the car, while Jeannoutot, who was known to the police as having a felony arrest warrant, stayed seated in the passenger seat, according to the statement.

A police officer ordered him to exit the car, but he instead moved toward a bag on his lap. The officer shot Jeannoutot after he failed to comply with further instructions, officials stated on Wednesday night.

The incident is being looked into by the Weld County Critical Incident Response Team, which examines situations where an officer uses or tries to use lethal force during their duties, involving personnel from different law enforcement agencies in Weld County. Afterward, the district attorney evaluates the team’s report to decide if the officer should be exonerated or if the case should be sent to a grand jury.
