A man in his 30s, who played a role in the attempted abduction and killing of a well-known YouTuber named “Sutak” with a million followers, has been further sent to court.
The Violent Crimes and Scientific Investigation Unit 2 of the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office (led by Chief Prosecutor Park Jong-seon) stated on the 3rd that individual A, aged 36, has been charged with assisting in a robbery involving coercion and jointly holding someone against their will under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.
Person A is suspected of providing his car, blue tape, gloves, and other materials to B (25 years old), a secondhand car dealer, and another person at the time they abducted a YouTuber in his 30s. The incident occurred around 10:40 p.m. on the 26th of last month in an underground parking lot of an apartment complex in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon.
It was verified that A had consented to receive more than 150 million South Korean won if the crime was successful.
He was also discovered to have tried to entice the victim to Hwaseong City, Gyeonggi Province, along with B and others a week before the crime in an attempt to kidnap and rob him, but the plan did not succeed.
The prosecution discovered more conspirators by considering that B’s group utilized a car belonging to someone else during the crime, along with a discussion that said, “One person (A) has been captured, so only the leader (a member of the group) needs to arrive.”
B’s group had previously faced charges of attempted robbery-murder and collective detention under the Act on the Punishment of Violent Acts.
They are charged with forcibly placing the YouTuber into a car around 10:40 p.m. on the 26th of last month in an underground parking garage of an apartment complex in Songdo International City, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, and trying to kill him by striking him approximately 10 times with a heavy object.
They tricked the victim into going to an underground parking garage by claiming they needed to return borrowed money, then attacked him and took him to a cemetery parking lot in Geumsan County, South Chungcheong Province, about 200 kilometers away.
Prior to encountering them, the YouTuber had informed the authorities that he felt intimidated. Despite experiencing significant facial damage, his life was not at risk.
The inquiry found that B was responsible for the crime following the YouTuber, who had entered into an agreement for a luxury SUV, requested the refund of the deposit.
A representative from the prosecution remarked, “We will strive to make sure that the defendants are given punishments that match the severity of their offenses.”
