Longtime Latta council member Marcus McGirt has become the town’s new mayor, as per unofficial results from the Dillon County Election and Voter Registration Office.
McGirt made history as the town’s first African American mayor.
He and new recruit Rick Watson competed for the position.
McGirt received 197 votes compared to Watson’s 137.
Three positions were available on the town council.

Election authorities have published the following outcomes for those contests:
- Jorge Cortez 96
- Lizzie Crawford 237
- Sherita Hall 123
- Melinda Page Robinson 190
- Randy Tyler 147
- Write In 37
The outcomes of all the races will be officially confirmed later this week.
ABC 15 will broadcast the official results at that time.
